    Winter Fun in Jersey City: Local NJ Events of the Season

    The holiday season is upon us! Make sure you have a fun-filled winter by participating in some of the many family-friendly local NJ events that Jersey City has to offer all throughout the season. Here’s a few you can check out now!  

    Annual Historic Downtown Tree Lighting and Menorah Ceremony

    Bring your kids and enjoy a free evening at the Grove Street PATH Plaza and Pedestrian Mall from 5:00 – 6:00 pm on Thursday, December 3rd. Presented by the Historic Downtown Special Improvement District, Mayor Fulop and Jersey City will light a Christmas tree and a Menorah to kick off Christmas and Hanukkah. Santa will be available for photos and kids can enjoy free cookies.

    Project: MARKET

    Kick off the holiday shopping season on December 5th and 6th at the 2nd annual heated outdoor market hosted by The Jersey City Project. This local event in NJ will celebrate the rich history of the Historic Downtown section of Jersey City by showcasing local goods and helping to encourage economic growth among small businesses. Vendors include: Milk Sugar Love Creamery, Republic of Pigtails, Modcup Coffee Co., Jersey Plate Art, pAra, Ahri’s Kitchen, Jersey Thursday Knits and more!

    Newport Skates

    Celebrate the snowy season with a fun night on the area’s only outdoor ice skating rink. Located within the Newport section of Jersey City, skaters of all ages will enjoy the magical view of the New York City skyline while testing out the rink. Newport Skates will open on November 21st (weather permitting) and remain open through March 2016. Admission is $7.Skate rentals are $6 with special discounts for Newport residents.

    Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition

    If you want to avoid the cold by staying warm indoors, learn about the fate of the RMS Titanic and its passengers at the Liberty Science Center. The exhibit will take you back to April 1912 with more than 100 authentic artifacts set within replicas of cabins and other rooms of the ship. As a visitor you will receive an imitation boarding pass and assume the role of a passenger as you’re taken on a chronological journey through the ship’s history.. You will even be able to touch an “iceberg’ to feel first-hand how cold the water was the night the infamous ship sank. Date: October 31st, 2015 – May 30, 2016
