    New Jersey Volunteers: Big Hearts of Jersey City

    The people of Jersey City have heart and we can prove it! Over the last few weeks thousands of New Jersey volunteers have donated their time and effort to help raise money for causes like local landmarks, nonprofits and disease research. Read on to see how good Samaritans gave back in October (and keep reading further to learn about ways YOU can give back too in November by volunteering in the Jersey City community).

    Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, October 17, 2015

    Jersey City residents came out in full force to support the Alzheimer’s Association in its mission to defeat the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. About 1,500 Jersey City volunteers showed up to walk a three-mile track through Liberty State Park and raise funds for Alzheimer’s research.

    American Cancer Society Making Strides walk, October 18, 2015

    Over 6,000 cancer survivors and supporters and New Jersey volunteers colored Lincoln Park pink as they dressed in fun team costumes and walked to raise money and show the determination of the human spirit.  Approximately $350,000 was raised to support breast cancer research and services.

    LibertyHealth Foundation annual golf outing, October 19, 2015

    The annual LibertyHealth Foundation golf fundraiser was attended by over 100 people who raised several thousand dollars for Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health. Participants competed in hole-in-one shootouts and other contests, which were followed by a benefit dinner for the Women’s Health Center at Grove Street.

    Jersey City Free Public Library Hair-Raiser, October 22, 2015

    For the 12th annual fundraiser for the Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation, attendees were invited to dress up in Halloween costumes and enjoy food, drinks and live music for just $20. The money was raised to support the Jersey City library system and the services, education, entertainment and books it provides to the community.

    Chefs Share at the Sharing Place, November 7, 2015

    Watch local Jersey City Chefs Kimberley Marie and Maurice Burt demonstrate their favorite techniques at this cocktail and dessert reception at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Tickets are $50 and all proceeds go to The Sharing Place, Hudson County’s largest food pantry.

    Autism Awareness Ultimate Buffet Dinner, November 17, 2015

    For $30 you can enjoy a buffet dinner from 5:00 pm – 9:30 pm with bottomless soft drinks and a gift package at POC’s second annual charity event. Face painting, balloons, games, arts and crafts, a DJ, prizes and more will also be available. POC is located at 450 Hackensack Avenue in Hackensack. All proceeds are being donated to Autism New Jersey.

    New City Kids Bash Benefit Performance, November 18, 2015

    118 children from New City Kids will be showcasing what they learned on their musical instruments at this free benefit performance from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm at 240 Fairmount Avenue in Jersey City. Music, games and refreshments will make this a performance you won’t want to miss! Donations to the program will also be welcomed and accepted.
