To make the process easy for you, your friends and your family, we did some research, consulting Jersey Cares, NJ Soup Kitchen and several websites for local soup kitchens in NJ. Take a look at a few of the options we’ve compiled, then get out and help!
Hunger Helpers in Jersey City
About: This program is run by St. Lucy’s Shelter, a supervised 24-hour, 7-day-a-week, year-round emergency shelter for single women and men. In addition to emergency housing, St. Lucy's also provides food for those in need. Volunteers play an important role in the facilities' operation by providing assistance with meal preparation, sorting and distributing food.
Hours: Food preparation and sorting begins at 4PM. Food distribution begins at 5PM

Hoboken Shelter
About: Hoboken Shelter provides shelter to 50 people a night and serves 300 meals a day. Volunteers help make the shelter operational and can make a difference for many by offering a few hours of their time to prepare and serve meals to those who otherwise would go hungry.
Hours: Sunday – Saturday 6PM to 8PM

St. John’s Soup Kitchen
About: St. John’s Soup Kitchen relies on volunteers to keep up operations on a daily basis. St. John’s offers a wide range of volunteer opportunities, including cooking, serving and cleaning. St. John’s Soup Kitchen enlists the help of the Jersey City community, including various churches, businesses, youth groups and individuals. Children who would like to volunteer must be at least 14 years of age and accompanied by an adult.
Hours: Tuesday – Saturday. Breakfast: 8:30 to 9AM; Lunch: 11:30AM - 12:30PM

Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center
About: The Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals and corporations looking to give back. From serving lunch, to sorting fresh produce for its Healthy Choices Market, or helping at a fundraiser, volunteers make it all possible!
Hours: Monday – Friday. Breakfast 9 - 10:30AM; Lunch 11AM - 1PM

Eva’s Village
About: Eva’s soup kitchen serves hot lunch to up to 400 homeless and working poor 365 days a year. In addition to the typical hot lunch, Eva’s also serves the participants in its outpatient program each day, and breakfast, lunch and dinner to all of those staying in its recovery and shelter programs. This amounts to more than 1,200 meals per day. NJ soup kitchen volunteers are always needed to help feed the hungry and they welcome the participation of individuals as well as local businesses, religious, civic and educational groups.
Hours: Volunteers are most needed Monday – Friday from 10:30AM to 1PM
