Roshown McLeod has been a standout at every level of basketball he has ventured into during his lifetime. From his early days in Jersey City, to high school at St. Anthony’s, to the halls of Duke, and the bright lights of the NBA, Roshown has made an impact. Since injuries cut short what looked to be a promising career, McLeod has found an ability to make another impact on the court. This time, though, he does it from the bench.

McLeod has been coaching and mentoring young basketball players since his retirement after the 2001 NBA season. He served as an assistant coach at Fairfield University from 2002-2003, coached and ran the entire basketball program at Woodward Academy in Atlanta, and started The Next Level Players Development program which centered around AAU teams. His journey recently led him to Indiana University, where he now is an assistant to Head Coach Tom Crean. The Hoosiers are currently in rebuilding mode and are giving extended playing time to many underclassmen. The tutelage that these players receive this season will be vital towards Indiana becoming a contender in the Big Ten within the next few seasons.

If McLeod can lend a supporting hand in the development of these young Hoosiers, there may be a bright coaching career in front of him. Not many collegiate coaches can bring the experience and clout of being a former first team All-ACC and honorable All-America as a senior, when he averaged 15.3 points per game for Duke. He has already helped mold Freshman Christian Watford into a young version of himself, and is developing a reputation as a great communicator with young players. Fans shouldn’t be surprised if McLeod led teams become a staple of March Madness in years to come.
