An unidentified 19-year-old Claremont Avenue resident is fighting for his life following a shooting near Pine Street, and a 27-year-old Stegman Street resident was shot to death near Booker T. Washington Housing at 3 a.m., both on Aug. 31, police said.
The 19-year-old is in critical condition at Jersey City Medical Center. In that case, the victim was shot twice in the left side of the head and once in the buttocks.
In the second incident, Christopher Felder, 27, was killed near the Fremont and Bright streets at the housing complex when shots were fired into a crowd.
“The shot that killed him was fired from a substantial distance away, toward a group of people, and from a semi-automatic pistol. There is no motive established and it was clearly not a robbery,” said Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio. “It’s uncalled for, wanton violence.”
Felder was a maintenance employee at Christ Hospital in the Heights.
“Mr. Felder was a hard-working young man with no criminal record,” said DeFazio, adding that the HCPO is working with Jersey City Police to solve the crimes.
