It’s August and we all know what that means: summer is almost over. Fortunately, there are still enough dog days left to enjoy the countless offerings at Torico Premium Homemade ice cream parlor.

For the last 30 years, Torico has been perfectly positioned on the corner of 1st and Erie in Jersey City. It’s a small place, but quite popular with the locals and not-so-locals alike. There is a small amount of seating indoors, as well as a couple of tables outside—weather permitting. The décor is colorful and child-like, which somehow makes you very excited to try their ice cream.

And, yes, they do encourage you to try different flavors. Ask for a taste, and you’ll find yourself swimming in the rich, smooth and creamy wonders of Chocolate Peanut Butter, Jackfruit, Mamey, Pineapple n’ Cream, Poundcake, Tamarindo, Coffee Royale, and so many other original and genius concoctions. Be careful not to fill up, though, or you won’t have room for whatever you actually order. And if you can’t decide what to order, you can take home a Cupcake Sampler, which is a small scoop of 6 or 12 different flavors in a frozen makeshift cupcake tray. Sometimes it pays to be indecisive.

But Torico is not solely about ice cream. They also offer Italian ice, sherbet, milkshakes, and malts. You can get a classic banana split with your choice of over 20 different toppings.

Consider this: if you went to Torico every day, starting today, and tried a different flavor of their ice creams, sherbets or Italian ices, you would not exhaust them until the end of September. I can’t think of a better way to finish out the summer.
