Former Olympian figure skater Nicole Bobek is most famous on the ice, but police charge that she played a “significant” role in a drug ring that moved over $20,000 of methamphetamine through Hudson County weekly.

She was arrested July 6 for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. She was extradited from Florida to Jersey City.

Last month, police arrested 19 people in connection with the drug operation, following a year-long investigation, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office. Bobek’s name was not released because she was not in police custody at the time.

On her myspace page, Bobek, 31, says she works as a skating coach and volunteers for Raising the Spirit, Touching the Heart, a charity she started to benefit hospitals, schools and animal shelters. She claims to operate “several of my own businesses.” Hobbies include “modeling, acting, dancing, poetry and designing clothes.” Despite her arrest, one of her 190 “friends” posted a “we still love you” message.

Her “hero” is her mom, Jana, who was in court July 6 as Bobek was arraigned via videolink from the Hudson County Jail in Kearny.

Her attorney, Sam DeLuca, who entered a “not guilty” plea on her behalf on July 6, did not return calls. Bail was set at $200,000, and later reduced to $100,000, which Bobek posted July 7.

Bobek, the 1995 World Figure Skating Championship bronze medalist, faces 10 years in prison if convicted.
